A dinner guest' in a Virginia home was telling his host how to prepare ham that would be even better than the famous Virginia ham. Guest: “ Place the ham in a deep pan, and the first day soak it in a bottle of rye whisky, and let it cook a while. The second day add a bottle of Jamaica rum, and the third day a bottle of port \vine. and the fourth day a bottle of Bourbon.” Host (turning to the coloured cook) : “ What do you think of that?” Negro Cook: “Ah don’t know ’bout the ham, but sho’ sounds like mighty fine gravy.”
