• LAING—NANCARROW. On Saturday afternoon, at St. Matthew’s Church, the wedding took place very quietly of Elizabeth Helen, second daughter of Mr and Mrs Fosbery Nancarrow, of Anderson’s Bay, and John Caroli, only son of Mr and Mrs John Laing, of Stafford street. Miss Biddy Laing was the bridesmaid, and Air Richard Reeves best man. The Rev. J. N. Thompson performed the ceremony. The bride was married in her goingaway dress—a charming model of navy blue crepe do chine made with a boatshaped neckline cowled both back and front, a slightly flared skirt with pleated jabots to give a tunic, effect, ant? long straight sleeves slashed so as to leavethe whole shoulder bare and having diamante outlines. A diamante tie and a heavy silver linked belt were appropriate accessories to the ensemble, the smart and becoming hat for which was of navy ballibuntal straw, with white flowers in the front. The bridal bouquet was a mass of multi-coloured roses. When the bride left later on her wedding tour she wore a prettily pleated cape as a supplement to ! her frock. Miss Biddy Laing, as bridesmaid, was in a navy blue satin tunic dress madb with a pleated basque and worn with white collar and cuffs and a small white halo hat. Her bouquet was of scarlet gladioli. After the wedding a small sherry party was held at the home of the bride’s parents. Mrs Nancarrow wore a navy blue straw hat and a frock of navy blue lace made with wide raglan sleeves caught into a tight cuff at the elbow, and finished at the shoulders with silver clips.. She. carried pink roses. Her daughter, Mrs B. L. Chambers, of Hawke’s Bay, was in green and brown printed crepe de chine worn with a large brown straw hat trimmed with cream flowers. Mrs John Laing’s smart frock was of black dull satin with French embroidery, her hat being of black and . white, and her bouquet -of deep red roses. Mr and Mrs J. C. Laing’s future home will be at Rangiora. ■ NIOOLSON—BLACK. Yesterday, at 6.15 p.m., the marriage of Doreen, elder daughter of Mr and Mrs H. G. Black, of Heriotßow, Dunedin, and granddaughter of Hie late Professor Black, to Colin, third son of Mr and Mrs E. E. 'Nicolson, of Elgin road, Mornington, took place at St. Paul’s Cathedral. The last rays of the afternoon sun shone through the beautiful stained glass windows a’nd shed a mellow light on the wedding group as they walked up (the aisle to the altar. The Very Rev. the Dean of Dunedin, performed the ceremony, and Air B. ‘ Heywood, F.R.G.0., was at the organ. The bride, who was ’ escorted by her father, made a charming picture in her gown of whitey French lace, made over a foundation of stiffened net and silk. It fitted snugly_ to the knees, where godets of tiny frills of silk net were introduced to form a billowy hemline. Full Elizabethan puff sleeves, outlined by silver lame rosebuds, were a feature of the gown, and silver shoes were worn. A Russian coronet of waxed orange blossoms held in place the trailing veil of white silk embroidered net. while her shower bouquet of white and blush-pink roses was finished with silver streamers. She was attended by two bridesmaids—the Misses Gladys Black and Rona Nicolson. The former wore a frock of rose dawn lace and the

latter dusky cornflower blue lace. They were cut alike on long lines, the short trains being bordered with two rows of frills. On their hair they wore bandeaux of pink rosebuds and forget-me-nots, and their exquisite shower bouquets were of roses and forget-me-nots with streamers to match their frocks.

The bridegroom was attended by Air J. Brice Thomson as best man, and by his brother (Mr Alan Nicolson) as groomsman, and Air lan Nicolson acted as usher.

Later the guests proceeded to the Excelsior Hotel, where a reception was held, the guests being received by the bride’s parents, assisted by Air and Airs Nicolson. Airs Black wore a frock of Burgundy lace and georgettej with accessories to tone, and a wide-brimmed. Tuscan straw hat. Her bouquet was of pink roses. Airs Nicolson’s frock was of electric blue lace and a picture hat of deep-toned straw featured a posy of roses. Gold roses formed her bouquet. Dinner followed, at which other guests were Air and Airs lan Nicolson (Aloa Creek), Mr and Airs Alfred Fels, Mr and Airs Frank Halsted, Dr an'd Airs AY. N. Benson, Dr and Airs Alullin, Dr and Airs Andrew, Mr and Airs J. G. Patterson, Air and Airs J. H. Walker, Airs Haddock. Alisses. A. Herbert (London), AI. Nicolson, and ‘I, Nicolson. Later in the'evening a cabaret party was held at the Brown House for the entertainment of Hie young friends of the bride and bridegroom. Airs Colin Nicolson’s travelling costume was a brown ensemble. The frock of gold and cream floral crepe de chine was worn under a brown coat, and the halo hat and accessories were of brown to match.
