Mr .I.- R. Gilmour, registrar of the Arbitration Court, was a passenger for Christchurch by the express this morn-' ing. : Mr D. Copeland, president of the • Dunedin Waterside Workers’ Union, and Mr J. Cameron, secretary of the Bluff Waterside Workers’ Union, went north this morning to attend the biennial conference of .. the New Zealand Waterside Workers’ Federation at Lyttelton.
. Chief-detective J. B. Young ; of the local detective staff, has received advice of liis promotion to the' position of senior detective.
Mr_ Allan M. Finlay, LL.B., was this morning admitted as;.a barrister and solicitor of the Supreme Court by His Honour Mr Justice Kennedy on the motion of Mr F. B. Adams.

Mr Jaihes Fletcher, of Auckland, ia on a visit to Dunedin. . Dr J. Clennell Fenwick and Sir . Hugh Acland (both of ; Christchurch), Dr J, K. Dixon (Nelson), and Sir Louis Barnett are at present in Dunedin in connection with the medical examinations which are being conducted by the'University of Otago., In the examinations conducted, in September last in connection with the electrical wiremen’s registration reg'u-r lations, Messrs W. C, Baird (Invercargill), H. E. Bott, C. G. Noble, and H. V. O’Connor (all of Timaru), wero successful in passing in the written part. Messrs M. B. Mallach (Dunedin), W.C. Baird, A. B. Eastlakc, V. J. Kingsland (Invercargill), H. E. Bott, J. A. Macbeth, and' V, R. Sampson _ (Timaru), passed in the practical section of the examination. ' ■

At a meeting of the Dunedin Central branch of the New Zealand Labour Party last evening, members . farewelled the honorary organiser and treasurer (Mr J. B. Bell), who has taken a prominent part in. the activities of the Labour-movement in Dunedin for the past five years, and who is leaving Dunedin next, week to take up a position in Auckland. The president of. the branch (Mr James Saunders) referred in eulogistic terms to the ; services rendered to the Labour movement, by Mr Bell, and, as a mark of appreciation and, esteem, made him a presentation; After careful consideration of the. applications for the position of town clerk, .the Mount Eden Borough Connell decided (reports *a Press Association telegram from Auckland) to make no _ appointment but to advertise again, in-' creasing the salary offered by . £IOO, making it £6OO. A special meeting of the council was held to consider the appointment, the ■ discussion being taken - in committee.
