TOMAHAWK BOATING CLUB
The annual meeting of the above club was held at the boatshed on Saturday evening. The commodore, Mr C. M. Hewitt, presided over a good attendance of members. In moving the adoption of the report and balance sheet, he commented on the satisfactory position of tho club, but stressed the necessity of obtaining one or two new rowing i boats for the coming season. The election of officers resulted;— Commodore, Mr C. M. Hewitt; vicecommodore, Mr J. A. Winefield; secretary, Mr S. C. Kenna; 'treasurer, Mr A. Biggs; committee—Messrs J. Megrrett, J. Thomson, J. Rapson, G. M‘Kay. , , Tho commodore then referred to the pioneering work done for the club by Mr A. Brown (who is retiring from active membership), and to the services of Mr G. Dickson, who had retired from the position of treasurer. Both were elected life mem hors it was decided to affiliate with the newly-formed Model Yacht Association. Mr 0. Pistor and Mr J. Thomson heir,;: elected as the club’s delegates. The club held its first of the season’s races in dull but calm weather, with the wind freshening considerably for the Davis Cup race and flic race for yachts 12ft Cm and over. Results:— 3ft Gin class, open to any design— Rowdy (J. Thomson) 1, Purity Ada (J. Kerr) 2, Wings (A. Reeves) 3. Seven starters. 4ft restricted class—Bubbles (J. Kerr) 1, Doris (J. Rapson) 2, Vagabond (J. Thomson) 3. All boats started from scratch, with 10 starters. Davis Cup race—Welcome (C. Hewitt) 1, Vagabond (J. Thomson) 2. June (A. Reeves) 3. Again all boats started from scratch with ten starters. Yacht race, 12ft Gin and over— Kathleen (S. C. Kenna) 1, Bunyip (J. J. Mack) 2, Swastika (G. M‘Kay) 3. All boats started from scratch. This race was started in fairly calm weather, which soon changed, and it finished with some smart sailing. Tho Swastika was first across the line, closely followed by Kathleen and Bunyip. Kathleen set a spinaker. which was changed over when the wind suddenly sprang up from the south-west. After rounding the first mark the Kathleen took the lead and held it to the finish.
