LICENSING REFORM

A meeting of the committee of the New Zealand Licensing Reform Association (Otago branch) passed the following resolution:— “1. That as the ballot paper at the approaching poll will still consist of three issues, this meeting appeals to the electors to vote for the middle issue of State purchase and control, which, while definitely counting against prohibition demonstrates to the Legislature and to those engaged in the licensed business the desire of the people for -amendment of existing conditions.” “ 2. That in the opinion of this meeting the final solution of the liquor problem lies in the direction of some form of public control such as the corporate control proposals advocated by the members of the Anglican clergy and endorsed by the Licensing Reform Association throughout New Zealand; whereby under, the combination of non-political Government control with business management there can be effected, without any cost whatever to the State, a real measure of temperance reform; and that, to assist in attaining that end, every effort be made to increase the support to the middle issue at the approaching poll,”- ' “ " '
