The star attraction on the first day is the W.* F. James Cup b£ two miles, for which many well-per-formed horses at the Cup Meeting in Christchurch will be competing; For this race Mr W. F. James (the club’s! totalisator proprietor) has generously donated a solid silver cup valued at‘ £SO, to be presented to the successful owner. This alone should make the race a keenly-contested one. The club is operating its own popular system of betting by which two dividends will be paid on the win machine*: on the basis of 75 per cent, to the first horse and 25 per cent, to the second, and three dividends in equal proportions on the place machine. The outside booth has also been removed to * a more convenient site, and thoroughly renovated throughout.. An additional stairway has also been; erected at the grand stand, which will not only relieve the congestion hut provide additional accommodation foe patrons. The club has again adopted the wiso policy of inviting the ladies to attend the meeting, and complimentary tickets may be obtained from the_ secretary or any member of the committee.
