(Received November 22, at 10 a.m.) The Emperor returned this morning in a monoplane escorted by two fighter planes. It appears that Emperor Selassie first flew to Jijiga and had a long conference with Nasibu. He visited the hospitals and talked with the wounded men from the Ogaden front. He addressed the troops and warned them that loss of the battle on the Ogaden front might mean loss of the campaign. Emperor Selassie then flew to Harrar and similarly exhorted the troops. The flight was apparently without incident, but it is reported that soon after he left Harrar for Addis Ababa two Italian planes circled over the city. ' CHURCHES HELP GOVERNMENT LOAN ROME, November 21. (Received November 22, at 10 a.m.) Monsignor FMlippi,. Archbishop of Momeale (Sicily) has devised a plan for assisting the Government loan. He has circularised .priests in' the diocese ordering all gold and silver votive offerings after being blessed to be sent to the Government assay offices, the donors receiving bonds of corresponding value. It is believed that other archbishops will follow suit. SANCTIONS UNPOPULAR LONDON, November 20. The * Daily Mail’s ’ Paris correspondent says: “Italy, owing to the French dislike of sanctions, which may immediately render idle 30,000 French workmeh, could probably purchase limitless raw materials and manufacturers secure their exports from France if cash or credit arrangements were made. Petrol could, if necessary, be reshipped. Sanctions are unpopular in other countries.’? MARCONI'S AIMS LONDON, November 20. The ‘ Daily Telegraph’s ’ Rome correspondent says: “ The Marchese Marconi will reach London on November 23'and will discuss the broadcasting ban from London with Sir John Reith. Marconi explains that he • desires to make a friendly speech in putting the Italian viewpoint. He added that no firsticlass nation could be expected to take sanctions lying down.” IN SUPPORT OF ITALY ROME, November 21. (Received November 22, at 1 a.m.) Signor Mussolini gave an audience to Lieutenant-colonel Cyril Rocke (late of the Irish Guards), who delivered a broadcast on the Abyssinian campaign from Rome last night, supporting Italy and emphasising Abyssinia’s need of a civilising influence. ■
