SUB-COMMITTEE'S FINDINGS ARRANGEMENTS FOR FUTURE At yesterday afternoon's meeting of the Otago Boys’ and Girls’ High School Board several recommendations, brought down by the special sub-com-mittee, dealing with the range of courses to be instituted at the new school at South Dunedin, were discussed and approved. On the suggestion of the rector (Mr D. S. Chisholm) the following courses of study were recommended by the subcommittee, and these were approved by. the board : (a) Professional, leading to tbe University and professional life generally—namely, law. medicine, church, army, dentistry, teaching, etc. _ Subjects: English, history and civics, Latin. French, mathematics, science. (b) General, leading to the University, engineering, teaching, business, etc. Subjects; English, history and civics, French, geography, bookkeeping, mathematics, science. (c) Modern general, suitable for boys not wishing to attempt the University' entrance examination. Subjects English, history and civics, geography, bookkeeping, . arithmetic Impractical mathematics), physics, chemistry, physiology ' ami first 'aid, woodwork, metalwork. Tbe subjects woodwork and metalwork would, of course, be conditional upon, facilities being provided by the Education Department, and it was decided that an application bo made, for the necessary accommodation and equipment. SCHOOL BADGE. The sub-committee reported that Mr Chisholm had submitted several designs for a school badge, and it was decided that the badge should take the form of a lion rampant. -The badge would bo in enamel in the school colours, dark blue and light blue, but the motto “ Doctrina vib promoyet insitam ” would not be included in the design. In letter headings mid for other official purposes, however, it, would be embodied in a scroll below the badge. PHOTOGHAPH 1C RECORD. It was decided that the sub-com-mittee should arrange for suitable photographs to be taken at the opening of tbe school, and also for 300 feet of film depicting the official ceremony. The idea was that this film should be added to from year lo year, in which case it would in the future form an important record of the opening and development of tlm school. SCHOOL UNIFORM. Tbe following uniform was approved of by the board Cap: Eight-piece cap in navy material with a hoop of Cambridge blue
three-quarters of an inch wide round the hodv of the cap, and with a rubber peak. Shirt: Navy blue flannel "tennis shirt, with white buttons, tbe collar buttoned through, and with a pocket. Shorts; Navy blue serge. Belt: An inch and a-half wide elastic belt, with block stripes half an inch wide, Cambridge blue in the centre, bordered on each side with hall inch wide Oxford blue. Stockings; Grey woollen stockings with diced top _in the school colours in approved design (fine wool preferred). Pullover: Grey woollen pullover with V-neck and with block stripes in the school colours as in the belt (fine wool preferred, as in the stockings). Tie: Silk tie in the school colours, with diagonal stripes each not less than half an inch in width. I*outwear: Black boots or shoes.
