DR A. G. B. FISHER
ELEVEN YEARS A PROFESSOR SERVICES RECOGNISED BY UNIVERSITY Recognition of the services to the University of Otago by Dr A. G. B. Fisher, who is shortly leaving to occupy the chair of economics in the University of West Australia, was made by the University Council yesterday afternoon, when the following minute was adopted “ That the council places on record its deep appreciation of the valuable services rendered to the University by Dr A. G. B. Fisher during his 11 years’ tenure of the Professorship of Economics. Dr Fisher’s high attainments, his ability as a teacher, and his unfailing personal interest in his students have won the sincere respect and regard of his classes. As director of the W.E.A. for Otago and Southland he has shown himself a skilful organiser and wise adviser. He has also taken a prominent part in the work of the League of Nations Union and other activities for the good of the community. The council greatly regrets Dr Fisher’s approaching departure and the serious loss thus befalling the university, but tenders its heartiest wishes for all success and happiness in his future work as Professor of Economics and Director of Adult Education in the University of Western Australia.”
Moving the minute, Mr L. D. Ritchie said that Dr Fisher had been invited to the West Australian chair, and that was a high compliment to his attainments and personality. He was sorry that the university was losing Biich an excellent professor.
. Professor J. R. T. Bell said that Dr Fisher had been an excellent member of the Professorial Board.
