CARNEGIE GRANT
ALLOCATION Of £IO.OOO DOMINION MUSEUMS AND ART GALLERIES A grant of £IO,OOO by the Carnegie Corporation in assisting .pmsoums and art galleries in the Dominion in educational work, was brought under the notice of members at a meeting or the Otago University Council yesterday. Dr C. B. Hercus wrote stating that he had been, asked by the Carnegie Corporation to convene a small committees of laymen to advise as to the spending of the grant. , . _ w The committee had.decided, Dr Herons said, to invite the metropolitan museums 'to consider whether they could carry out an investigation into some new branch of educational activity. In the case of the Otago Museum it was resolved to ask whether the council would be prepared to carry out an experiment in the development of temporary exhibitions with particular reference to the farming community. Attention had been drawn to the relative neglect of agriculture m the museums, arid it was felt that Otago, with its well-organised farmers, was most favourably placed for such an experiment. The council was asked to submit a scheme if the proposal were considered practicable. , ihe request was referred to the curator of the museum.
