TEA RESTRICTION SCHEME
QUESTION IN COMMONS (British Official Wireless.) Press Association —By Telegraph—Copyright RUGBY', July 2. In reply to a question in the House of Commons concerning what further steps the Government proposed to take with regard to the operation of the tea restriction scheme and the raising of tea prices, Mr Malcolm MacDonald said the primary object of the scheme was to restore equilibrium between supply and demand. The market prices in the second quarter of 1933, when the scheme came into operation, were already substantially higher, and since then prices in general had been at a still higher level. The Government saw no reason for initiating action.
