A racing dispute which has passed through several stages and has , occupied a considerable time in hearing was decided by the Auckland District Committee when the first prize money of £l3O for the Hobsonville Hurdles, run at Avondale in April, was awarded to Thespis, owned by G. Hodgson, of Auckland. Thespis ran second to Valpai, Who was ridden by a gentleman rider, J, L. Muir. Hodgson entered a protest on the grounds that Muir had infringed the conditions of his license by being associated in the training of Valpai. The protest was dismissed, and an appeal to the district committee followed. y The finding was as follows :—“ That G. Hodgson’s appeal be upheld on the ground that Valpai was not drained for racing by his owner in accordance with the rules of racing, the district committee opinion being* strengthened by signed evidence given by L. Hodgson at the Avondale inquiry that the horse was sent to the Dargaville meeting under the charge of J. L. Muir, who was not the holder of a trainer’s license.” The effect of the decision is to disqualify Valpai for the race. In addition to Thespis receiving first prize money of £l3O, St. Ames, who finished third, takes second prize of. £3O, and The Sun, who finished fourth, takes third prize of £ls.
