LAST DEPRESSION PASSES EAST BETTER CONDITIONS The following weather forecast was issued at noon by the Meterological Office, Wellington, covering the southern district—Dunedin, Port Chalmers, Tapanui, Winton, Invercargill, Riverton, Orepuki, Bluff, Halfmoon Bay:— • The last of the recent long series, of deep depressions has passed away eastwards, and an anti-cyclone is now moving on to the dominion. Forecast; Moderate to fresh southerly _ winds. Weather fair to fine, but some isolated showers in the far south. Cold tempera- , turos, with severe frosts. Seas rathe? rough. A BRIGHTER DAY. Inclement, wintry conditions provailed throughout yesterday, periodic rain showers, with an occasional flaks of snow, being driven up by a howling;-sou’-wester. A real storm was indicated. However, overnight the barometer leaped up, and Dunedin welcomed the reappearance of the, sun after some days’ absence. The weather was brighter, in fact, than it has been for nearly a week, and at noon it was quite mild, though there was still * v light breeze with a southerly tendency,and there was a light coating of snow on the surrounding • hills.. The temperature was 44.9 deg., the minimum for the morning being 39deg.,and the barometer was steady at 29.8 in. Yesterday’s, temperatures for 24 hours* ended at 9 o’clock this morning, were a maximum of 42.6 deg-, and a mini- , mum of 35deg. During the same period the rainfall was .17in. There was no frost.
