THE HOUSING PROBLEM fPBR Uwited Pkess Association.) WELLINGTON, July 1. The mayor (Mr T. C. A. Hislop) today indicated that ho will as soon as possible promote an inquiry by the City Council into the wide question of city development, witli particular reference to the problem of bousing and to the improvement of the city as one preparation ( for the celebrating of the centenary of Wellington in 1940. Mr Hislop stated that at the next meeting of the City Council he proposed to move that a committee be set up to examine the housing problem, to review the present by-laws relating to the erection of flats and tenement buildings, and to consider and report to the council on the most suitable methods of celebrating the centenary of the city of Wellington and the efficient development of the city.
