It was stated at a meeting held iii Opotiki last week that Mr K. S. Williams did not intend to seek re-elec-tion for the Bay of Plenty seat. , At a gathering of the staff of Messrs Arthur Barnett Ltd. a presentation of stainless cutlery and table silver was made to Mr W. Corbet, who has severed his connection with the firm. Mr A. E. Davy, dominion organiser of the Democratic Party, arrived, on Saturday night from the north. Tomorrow evening he will leave for In? vefcargill. and will return to. Dunedin on Thursday'. He intends to visit other South Island centres on his way back to Wellington towards the end of the week.

Patterson,sen., Miss O. and Mr J. Patterson, jun. Mr P. Costello and Mr W. Lindsay endorsed the previous speaker’s remarks, and wished them prosperity ir| the future. Mr J. Patterson suitably replied. An excellent musical programme was-supplied by Mrs J. Yule,Miss G. Smith, and Messrs J. Kennedy and L. Dunbar. Dancing concluded the ' evening’s entertainment,. Mr W. Irving supplying the music. A memorial tablet to Dr Robert Erwin, who was minister of Knox Church, Christchurch, from 1885 to 1922, and Mrs Erwin, was unveiled at the church yesterday morning at a special service conducted by the Rev.
