POLICE COURT

MONDAY, JULY 1, (Before Air H. W. Bundle, S.M.> DRUNKENNESS. A statutory first oflender was fined 10s, in default 24 hours’ imprisonment. THREE MONTHS’ IMPRISONMENT, Ronald James Rackley admitted changes of stealing an overcoat and other articles valued at £8 12s, the property of Harry Cuthbertson, and a suit case and other articles valued at £1 15s, the property of AValter Thomas Higgins. Chief-detective Young said that Air Cuthbertson visited the Empire Hotel for dinner on June 19, and left his coat, together with a pair of spectacles and other articles, in the halL The accused visited the hotel at this time and moved them. He was not located unt me 23, when he was seen coming out vu the Provincial Hotel with a suit case in his hand. He was then wearing Mr Cnthbcrtson’s coat, and further inquiries showed that he had stolen the suit case and its contents from the hotel. Ho had been staying at the hotel, but .Air Young did not know where he got the money from. ■ Ho was a relief worker and a married man, but did not live at home. Rackley had been before the court on a number of occasions.

Rackley said that he was drinking ncavily at the time of these thefts. lie was sentenced to three months’ imprisonment.
