OTAGO HUNT CLUB

TOl-TOI DESTROYED The Highcliff meet of the Otago Hunt Club was held on Saturday over the properties of Messrs J. Robertson, D. T. Robertson, E. Hellyer, T. John ston, and G. Donaldson. The course was of a difficult nature, and _ offered ample scope for first-class jumping and general horsemanship. The hunt started in one of Mr J. Robertson’s paddocks, the hounds setting a good pace and giving plenty of tongue. The first portion of the hunt, over the properties of Messrs <l. Robertson and D. 3. Robertson, consisted of some seven post-and-rail jumps, and was safely negotiated by the majority of followers. The next jump led on to the road, and at first caused some trouble to a few. There was a trot of about half a mile up the .road to the property of Mr E. Hellyer, where a post-and-rails and a road double provided some good jumps. The remaining four jumps over the properties of Messrs Johnston and Donaldson included some formidable stone walls. Miss D. Medley, on Toi-toi, was the first lady home, and gained the coveted brush after an excellent exhibition of plucky riding. After landing over the last jump she met with an unfortunate accident. Hoy mount, the well-known hunter Toi-toi, owned by Mr G. V. Humphries, slipped and broke his neck. Miss Medley was slightly injured. After the run the followers adjourned to the residence of a former master, Mr R. Brunton, where afternoon tea was provided. At the conclusion the deputy master, Mr R. Greenslade, thanked the hosts for their hospitality. Among those present were: —The master (Mr J. R. Brunton) on Heather Bloom, the deputy master (Mr R.
