SWIMMING
KIWI CLUB DANCE The Kiwi Amateur Swimming Club held a very successful and enjoyable dance at which the annual senior prizegiving ceremony took place in the Embassy Salon on Thursday night. There was a good attendance of members and friends, the crowd enjoying the music supplied by the Havana Bandits’ Band. Mr A. Thomas was a capable M.C. Supper was provided by an efficient ladies’ committee. During tho supper interval the prizes were presented by the president (Mr Sam Brown), who congratulated the club on the highly successful season that had been experienced. Opportunity was also taken by Mr Brown to present to the club champion on behalf of members a cup in recognition of his fine performance in breaking the 150yds, 200-metre, and 400-metre New Zealand back-stroke record. Mr Brown congratulated Mathieson on his fine effort in winning the 150yds New Zealand back-stroke championship in the record time of Imin 45 4-ssec. A presentation was also made to Miss W. Dunn, an intermediate swimmer, who recently broke the New Zealand ladies’ 100-metre breaststroke record of Imin 42sec by covering the distance in Imin 39 3-sscc. On Saturday evening the club entertained the Dunedin Club at a euchre party at the baths club room. Mr S. Brown welcomed the visitors, and Mr Dan Bannatyno. returning thanks on behalf of the Dunedin Club, invited those present to a further evening on the 13tli. The prizes were won as follow:—Mr Mundio (men’s). Miss P. Boulton (ladies), and consolations by Miss Ferguson and Mrs J; M'Taggart.
