MANCHESTER UNITY

The fortnightly meeting of Loyal Centenary Jjoclgo was well attended, N.G. Bio. W. Sellar presiding. A welcome was extended to a number of visitors and P.G. Bro. J. D. Cameron and P.D.G.M. Bro. E. W. Hey, of the District Executive. The election of officers for the half-year resulted:— N.G., Bro. J. G. Peake; V.G., Bro. i. M'Callan; E.S., Bro. W. G. Davidson; warden, Bro. A. Parker; guardian, Bro. 11. Scott. After installing the officers the P.6.M. extended best wishes to them for a successful term, and stated that he was pleased to note the lodge had entered for the efficiency shield. There would probably be a slight alteration to the conditions of this competition. He announced that, in response to an application from the Loyal Outram Lodge for the next district meeting in September it had been decided to hold it there. Bro. Hey also spoke, stating that it was very encouraging to the officers to see such a good attendance of visiting brethren. . , N.G. Sister E. Longworth presided over the half-yearly meeting of the Loyal Princess Mary Lodge. There was a very large attendance of members and visitors. Two candidates were initiated and five propositions for membership received. The N.G. reported on a visit to the Middlernarch Lodge, where the visitors were hospitably received by the country brethren. Under the summoned meeting, P.G.M. Bro. Cameron, assisted by visiting officers, installed the following officers: —N.G., Sister C. Lunam; V.G., Sister M. Edwards; E.S., Sister J, Archie; warden, Sister D. Miller; guard, Sister J. Duncan. Replying to the toast of the “ District Executive,” the P.G.M. referred to the attendance that evening as the largest seen at any installation so far. The visitors’ toast was acknowledged by representatives from Centenary, Valley", Caversham, Albion, and Prince of Wales Lodges. At the half-yearly meeting of the Caversham Lodge, N.G. Bro. F. Snook presided over a good attendance of brethren, including many visitors. The P.G.M. (Bro. Cameron) and P.D.G.M. fßro. Hey) were also present. It was stated that a choir,' consisting principally of members of the Princess Mary and Caversham lodges, had been formed and was making good progress. It was decided to make a donation of £1 to assist the choir. The elections of officers resulted as follows: —N. 6., Bro. H. Croft; V.G., Bro. V.. Parker; E.S., Bro. D. Stevenson; warden, Bro. H. Taylor; guardian, Bro. C. M. IsaacG.M., Bro. F. Snook. The installation was conducted by the district officers and visiting brethren. Appreciation was expressed at tho frequent visits made to the lodge by P.G.M. Bro. Cameron. Several matters were , under the smnmoncled meeting, including the question of dispensary prescriptions; It was decided to write to the Dispensary Board for further information. At the conclusion of the. meeting members were entertained at supper. At the half-yearly summoned meeting of Loyal Mosgiel Lodge N.G. Bro. J. Thomson presided over a _ good muster of members. Two candidates were initiated, while two further propositions for membership were received. Tho installation of officers for the halfyear was ably conducted by P.D.G.M. Bro. E. W. Hey, assisted by P.G.s Bros. Cook, Mowat, and Isaac, of the Caversham Lodge, and P.P.G.M. Bro. P. Young (Valley). The officers, were elected as follows: —N.G.,- Bro. F. Carr; V.G., Bro. J. D. Bacon; E.S., Bro. A. Johnston; warden, Bro. P. M'Lean; guardian, Bro. T. Craigie. It was unanimously decided to enter fo,r the efficiency shield. Congratulating the officers on their elevation, Bro. Hev emphasised the fact that the new N.G. was the third P.G. of the juvenile lodge in succession to hold the office, thus proving the benefit of such a lodge to tho parent body. The Social Committee reported that arrangements were completed to run a series of dances to augment the fund. The resignation or P G Bro. Muirbeacl from the position of hall agent was accepted with regret, the permanent secretary (Bro. Wylie) consenting to undertake the duty. At the close of tho meeting the visitors were entertained to supper. The half-yearly meeting of Loyal Albion Lodge was well attended, N.G. Bro. L. J ames in the - chair. Among visiting brethren were P.G. Bro. Woods (Sydney) and a representative of tho Loyal Star of _ the North fOamaru) Lodge. The principal busi. ' ness under the summoned meeting was Ihe election of officers, aroused keen competition. The following were elected:—N.G., Bro. F. Stewart; V.G., Bro. N. G. Hay; E.S., Bro R. Roseveare; warden, Bro. R. Thompson; guardian, Bro. Truesdale; G.M., Bro. L. James. A visit was received from the P.G.M. and P.D.G.M., who later installed the nsw officers. Visiting officers also assisted. A vote of thanks was accorded the district officers and visitors. Responding, Bro. Cameron thanked those brethren who, during the past two weeks, had so ably supported him at the various installations, ihe attendance of so many brethren at the installations was very gratifying to the district officers, who appreciated their assistance. Speaking on the receiit visit to the Loyal Middlemarch Lodge, Bro. Cameron said it was very successful. The Middlemarch brethren had expressed a desire that he should return and conduct their installation, and several brethren had also expressed the desire to visit Middlemarch with him. Visits to such outlying lodges did a great deal to stimulate interest. P.D.G.M. Bro. Hey also responded, and said that one feature of the installations was the number of ox-juveniles who were taking office. This proved the worth of their juvenile movement. At the half-yearly meeting of the Loyal Prince of Wales Lodge (Port Chalmers) N.G. Bro. Neil presided over a good attendance of members. After correspondence had been dealt with and one candidate initiated, the election of officers was held, the following being appointed N.G., Bro. Maclaren; V.G., Bro. Mackinlay; E.S., Bro. Parker; warden, Bro. Broadley; guardian, Bro, Potter; G.M., Bro. Neil, The installation was conducted by P.G.M. Bro. Cameron, assisted by P.G.’s and brethren from Loyal Dunedin Lodge. Following the ceremony, the P.G.M, presented P.G. Bro. H. Williamson with an emblematical certificate. The Social Committee reported on the initial whist evening, stating that, despite adverse conditions, the attendance augured well for future functions. The annual hall was fixed for July 17. Before closing, three propositions for membership were received.

The fortnightly meeting of the Prince of Wales Juvenile Lodge was well attended, N.G. Bro. J. Fitzgerald in the chair. The evening took the form of an address by P.G. Bro. J. Millar, president of the Juvenile Council, who spoke on ‘ Train Control.’ That the subject was of interest to the boys was evident by the attentive hearing and the number of questions they asked. A vote of thanks rvas accorded the speaker..
