DAIRY CONFERENCE

REMITS DISCUSSED [Fn Ukited Press Associatio*.] PALMERSTON N., June 27. The National Dairy Conference wa* continued, and the following remit* were carried:— That conference is of the opinion that railage freights on coal are too high, and are adding considerably to the production costs of dairy produce. The Railway Board should be asked to favourably consider a substantial reduction on such freights. That in view of the importance of boneless beef and veal and the export pork trade as an auxiliary to the dairy industry, the conference impresses upon the Government the desirability of the dairy industry being directly , represented on the Meat Board, and urges the Government to bring this into effect. Discussion of remits was interrupted in order to hear addresses by Dr Marsden (Scientific Research Department) and Mr G. M. Valentine (as-sistant-director of the Dairy Division), the former dealing with research in relation to the dairy industry, and the latter with matters affecting marketing; also cheese and butte* quality.
