WOMEN MUSICIANS
The Society of Women Musicians held its monthly meeting, when those present were treated to a delightful program me of music. Miss Irene Barth (president) introduced Mrs Levi to the members. Mrs Levi chose, her items from a variety of composers, and showed by her execution, depth of tone, and artistic interpretation her wide knowledge of the music. She held her listeners in rapt attention till the close of the programme. The following were the items given;— ‘ The Poet Speaks (Schumann); chorale, ‘ Jesu, Joy of Man’s Desiring ’ (Bach), arranged by Myra Hess; two studios (Chopin); sonata, ‘ Appassionata, Op. 57 ’ (Beethoven), ‘The Girl with the Golden Hair ’ and ‘ The Minstrels ’ (Debussy); ‘ The Maiden with the Daffodil ’ and 1 Kopak,’ national .Russian dance (Arnold Bax); ‘ Nocturne in D Flat,’ Op. 27, ‘ Andante,’ and ‘ Polonaise in A Flat ’ (Chopin). Mrs Levi responded to three encores, which were much appreciated by her audience. Miss Irene Barth and Miss Mary Frazer both thanked Mrs Levi for giving such a comprehensive and enjoyable programme.
