Treasury officials disclose that for. weeks past they have been secretly gathering financial statistics in Europe. Dr Harry White,'of the University of Wisconsin, has been employed by the Treasury as observer, and has been moving, quietly in England and on the Continent. He is now on his way home. High Treasury officials denied that Dr , White was - authorised to discuss stabilisation. First reports stated that Dr White- had sought privately Britain’s stand on stabilisation, but had been told that war debt and other concessions were necessary before Britain would move toward tieing the £. Treasury officials are plainly annoyed by Dr White’s reported activities, declaring that be exceeded bis authority if he discussed stabilisation.
