ILL-ADVISED IMMIGRATION SCHEMES SIR STANLEY ARGYLE'S SOLUTION Press Association —By Telegraph—Copyright VANCOUVER, May 17. “ The restricted distributing of the population' in the British Empire constitutes a grave menace to its very existence, but while ill-advised immigration schemes are damaging, the solution lies, in child immigration,” said Sir Stanley Argyle, when addressing the Canadian Club. “ Bring the youngsters to Australia, South Africa, or Canada when they are in the formative year and let them grow up with the habits and traditions and the background of the country. Then they will become good citizens.” He emphasised the need for meetings in different parts of the Empire, where each country could learn to see the others’ viewpoint, This would lead to an understanding and end disastrous, ill-advised assisted scheme of immigration, the failures of which left an evil effect. Ho mentioned the failure of assisted schemes in Australia. Empire unity, he declared, could he furthered by close attention to mean? of transportation between the units of the Commonwealth. The life blood of the Empire depended on the strength of these lines. The various dominions could not be satisfied. to utilise only their own products, tie stressed the importance of air travel as binding the dominions closer, illustrating the centenary air race and the vistas of travel and the transportation possibilities it opened. He declared that the genius of the British race had surely not passed away. ‘‘The economic stability of our race must continue and all can be overcome.” TNE CHURCH'S FART LONDON, May 18. The Church of England'Council on Empire Settlement has appointed a consultative committee to inquire what part the Church should take in migration. The committee consists of Lords Middleton (chairman) and Apaley, Six William Campion, Dame Meriel Talbot, Mr O. G. Ammon, Dr P. Andrews (secretary), and Archdeacon Lewes (assessor), ________
