ILL-ADVISED IMMIGRATION SCHEMES SIR STANLEY ARGYLE'S SOLUTION Press Association —By Telegraph—Copyright VANCOUVER, May 17. “ The restricted distributing of the population' in the British Empire constitutes a grave menace to its very existence, but while ill-advised immigration schemes are damaging, the solution lies, in child immigration,” said Sir Stanley Argyle, when addressing the Canadian Club. “ Bring the youngsters to Australia, South Africa, or Canada when they are in the formative year and let them grow up with the habits and traditions and the background of the country. Then they will become good citizens.” He emphasised the need for meetings in different parts of the Empire, where each country could learn to see the others’ viewpoint, This would lead to an understanding and end disastrous, ill-advised assisted scheme of immigration, the failures of which left an evil effect. Ho mentioned the failure of assisted schemes in Australia. Empire unity, he declared, could he furthered by close attention to mean? of transportation between the units of the Commonwealth. The life blood of the Empire depended on the strength of these lines.
