■■ . % COLD AND SQUALLY V The following weather forecast wai issued at noon by the Meteorological Office. Wellington, covering the southern district—Dunedin, Port Chalmers* Tapanui, Winton, Invercargill, Riverton, Orepuki, Bluff, Halfmoon Bay:— A series of. secondary westerly depressions has been crossing New Zealand during the week-end, and another; is passing to-day. An intense anticyclone covers eastern Australia. Forecast: Southerly gales, decreasing tomorrow; weather cold, squally, and; changeable, with passing showers and some hail; seas rough to high. UNSETTLED WEEK-END. Conditions locally were unsettled over the week-end. . Saturday afternooni turned cold and widdj, and tbe night? ttas fery wintry. - The sun broke through a cloudy sky about midday yCs- \ terday, but the afternoon became Weak as the sun was again obscured. Light* . misty rain fell for short periods, but scarcely enough to dampen the ground# Early this morning hte weather broke properly, and for about three hour* there was a downpour of rain, which cleared, however, and permitted the sun to appear shortly before noon, wbenj there was little evidence of the heavyl , rain. There was still a cold souths westerly wind, though the barometen was rising at 29.4 in. The week-end temperatures were:—Saturday, S6.6deh and 38.2 deg; Sunday, 49deg and 37.8 deg; to-day, at noon, 44.2 deg and 37.6 deg. On Saturday .4in of ram was recorded;-.3lin fell during the 24 hour* up till 9 o’clock this morning, from . which xtime until noon there was a further recording of .07in. 1
