A RARE DISEASE

REPORTED FROM HAMILTON [Per United P.eess Association.] HAMILTON, May 18. A rare disease known as “ agranulocytosis,” reported here, has aroused considerable interest in the medical profession. In the great majority of the cases the .patient has succumhed, but in the latest case the patient is convalescent and has been discharged from the hospital. So far as is known no other cases of the kind have previously occurred in the dominion. It is of a very rare occurrence, due to the faulty functioning of bone which causes the defensive mechanism of the blood to be quickly weakened, and brings about great prostration, and even coma follows after a few days. Many parts may bo affected, including the lips, gums, throat, and tongue. ... .
