DAIRY BOARD SALARIES
MEMBERS AWARD THEMSELVES INCREASES GOVERNMENT SAID TO BE ACTING [l’iiK United Pjjess Association.! WELLINGTON, May 17. Considerable surprise (.says the ‘Evening Post’) has been created in dairying circles by the knowledge that recently members of the newly-elected Dairy Board, as reconstructed by the Agriculture (Emergency Powers) Act ot last session, increased their , salaries. The increase ot members’ salaries, it is stated, has been from £IBU to £3OO. 'The Government, it is understood, proposes to interest itself in the matter, and it is likely that the position will come to a head in the course of the next few clays. It is learnt on very good authority that the hoard is already acquainted with the Government’s views on the subject, and an indication that the Government will not remain passive is given by the fact that the Dairy Board is to meet the Executive Commission of Agriculture in consultation as provided by section 7 of the Agriculture (Emergency Powers) Act. It is understood that there will be a meeting of the Dairy Board on Monday morning, and that the conference with the Executive Commission of Agriculture will take place on Monday afternoon.
