The couple had arranged to be married, but the evidence showed that the accused married another girl the day before the tragedy. [A sensation occurred at Rockhampton on January 16 by the discovery of a young woman’s almost nude body' in a car at the rear of a city boarding house. The victim, who had been strangled, was identified as Phyllis Reiger, aged 22, a very popular girl. She was seen in the company of a man the night before, and the mail later went to nis boarding house and became violently ill.]
