At stumps the visitors in their second innings had scored 8 runs for no wickets. Mitchell-Innes and Benn, in an attractive partnership, defied the bowlers until mid-afternoon. Mitchell-Innes, who before lunch completed the season’s first century against the Africans, went on with a grand innings, which included one six and 18 fours. (Received May 17, at 11 a.m.) Marylebone has asked county clubs to arrange for umpires specially to signal all leg-before decisions under the experimental rule, as is already done at Lords, thus providing a record which will bo helpful when permanency of the rule is considered.
