RATIONED SCHEME FOR TEACHERS

CONDEMNED BY INSTITUTE [Per United Press Association.] WELLINGTON, May 16. Condemnation of the present rationed teacher scheme was expressed at the annual meeting of the New Zealand Educational Institute to-day, when a remit was carried pressing for its substitution by a scheme providing for the permanent employment of a proportion of the present rationed teachers and employment at full-scale rates for all others as probationary assistants and relieving teachers, Mr M. Riske estimated the cost of the new proposal at £63,000. The Minister of Education (Hon. S. G. Smith) said he thought the best had been done to meet the position. He was hopeful that the rationed scheme would have worked itself out by the end of 1936.
