BROADCASTING BOARD'S CONCERT
To-morrow night tho long looked for concert will take place in the Town Hall at 8. The Broadcasting Board, which has arranged this concert; is to be congratulated on its efforts in providing such talented artists to assist. The Christchurch ‘ Press,’ on the concert which was held last Tuesday, said: “ The big concert arranged by the New Zealand Broadcasting Board, and held in the St. James Theatre, was a great musical treat. There were four outstanding artists—Messrs Lionello Cecil (the Australian operatic tenor), Walter Kingsley (the celebrated English baritone). John Robertson (champion cornctist), Paul Vinogradoff (eminent* Russian pianist). These four artists received a wonderful ovation, and had to respond to two. three, and four encores. Messrs Cecil and Kingsley, in the vocal duets, quite captivated the audience. John Robertson's cornet playing was outstanding, and never before has such comet playing been heard in Christchurch. Paul Vinogradoff gave ‘ Hungarian Rhapsody No. 2,’ and at the end of the piece received a great reception, and he had to play two encores before the audience was _ satisfied.” Miss Mary Pratt is assisting, while the St. Kilda Band (champions of New Zealand) will accompany Mr Robertson in his solos, and will, also play selection 1 William Tell,’ overture ‘ Zampa.’ 4YA Concert Orchestra will play the accompaniments for the singers. The mayor is appealing for funds, and lie trusts that the public will support this concern in the same way as it did the last one arranged by the board.
