Y.M.C.A. TOURNAMENT
RUDDY FOOTBALL MATCH Timaru further increased its lead in the tournament between the boys’ divisions of the Dunedin, Christchurch, and Timaru Young Men’s Christian Associations this morning by defeating Christchurch in the Rugby match by 54 points to 3. The total points to date are:—Timaru 13, Christchurch 8, Dunedin 7. The teams were:— Christchurch. Mitchell, Stanley, Burton, Lane, M'Kinley, Almond, Roberts, Stapleton), R. Thomson, A. Thomson (captain), Bridget, Ralph, Johnson, Williams, Kinley. Timaru. —M'Mahon, Jack, Riley, Wardell, Forster, Cross, M'Clelland, Watson. Baillie, Pateman, Sara, Elder, Allan, Littlejohn, Walker. Throughout the game, which was played on the Caledonian Ground, Timaru dominated the play, and had Christchurch continually on defence. The handling of the winning fifteen’s backs was excellent, and with a monopoly of the ball they soon rattled on the points. Elder, at centre, gave an outstanding exhibition, and notched four tries. Others scorers were Allen (four), M'Mahoh (four), Alien four), Waddell (two), Jack (one), Littlejohn (one), and Sara (one). Three of the tries were converted. Christchurch’s points came from a penalty kick by Thomson. Mr F. E. S. Long was the referee.
