SAILED.—May 16. Storm,' s.s. (6.30 p.m.), 749 tons, Williams, for Wanganui via ports. Port Whangarei, m.v. (8 p.m.), 506 tons,'Holm, for Auckland via ports, MOVEMENTS ON THE COAST. Storm sailed last night for Timaru. Lyttelton, Wellington, Picton and Wanganui. Port Whangarei sailed last night for Timaru, Lyttelton, Wellington, Tauranga, Auckland, and Port Whangarei. Wingatui, from Auckland via ports, was off the Heads early this morning, but was unable to enter the harbour on account of the fog. She entered when visibility improved, and is scheduled to sail at noon on Saturday for Oamaru, Timaru, Lyttelton, Wellington, and Auckland. Holmdale is due from Wanganui and Wellington on Saturday. She is to sail the same day for Oamaru, Timaru, Lyttelton. Wellington, Picton. and Wanganui. Breeze is duo from Wellington ryid Wangan a on Monday, and is to s _T the same clay for Timaru, Lyttelton, Wellington, Picton, and Wanganui. Oraana is to leave Wellington on Saturday for Timaru and Dunedin. She is due on Tuesday, and is to sail the same day for Bluff and Greymouth. 0 rep aid is due from Wanganui and Wellington on Wednesday. She is to ;sail the same clay for Timaru, Lyttelton, Wellington, Picton, and Wanganui. Kaimai is now to leave Wellington on Monday for Dunedin direct. She is due on Wednesday, and is to load and sail the same day for Wellington, Nelson. and New Plymouth via ports. Wairaarmo is to leave Auckland on Monday for Lyttelton, Dunedin, and Bluff. She iu due on May 24, and is to sail for Bluff the same day. The ferry steamer Tarewai, with 30 years of active service to her cridit, is at present on the slip at Port Chalmers undergoing annual overhaul. The ferry service is not interrupted meanwfiile. The Tarewai was built by Knewstubb Bros., and engined by Stevenson and Cook.
INTERISLAND EXPRESS. The interisland express steamer Rangatira reached Lyttelton from Wellington at 6.50 a.m. to-day. Passengers and mails for the south connected with the express. DURHAM ON SUNDAY. The New Zealand Shipping Company advises that the motor ship Durham is due at Port Chalmers on Sunday from Liverpool via northern ports. After discharging Home cargo she' will sail for Bluff to complete discharge. REMUERA’S ROUGH TRIP. The Remuera arrived at Wellington on Monday morning after an uneventful passage. Heavy seas were encountered for three days towards, the end of last week, and on one day the ship only made 144 miles. No damage was done. MATAROA SAILS. The Shaw, Savill liner Mataroa, after loading frozen meat and other products, left Port Chalmers yesterday for Auckland. She will complete loading at Wellington, and is scheduled to sail from the northern port at 5 p.ra. on May 24 for Southampton and London via Panama. THE PORT SYDNEY. In ballast from Newcastle-on-Tyne via the Cape of Good Hope, the C. Line steamer Port Sydney reached New Plymouth on Sunday to commence Homeward loading. She was to sail today for Auckland, Napier, and Wellington to complete. ' The vessel is sche doled to clear Wellington on May 30 for London via Cape Horn. AUSTRALIND REPORTS. En route from New York and Newport News, the A. and A. Line chartered motor ship Australind lias reported by wireless that she expects to reach Auckland at 6‘ a.m. to-morrow. She will later proceed ®to Wellington, Lyttelton, Dunedin, and Australia to complete discharge. MAUI POMARE FROM THE ISLANDS. The Maui Pomare arrived at Lyttelton mi Monday with her cargo of fruit in good order. On the trip to Apia excootionally bad weather was experienced. with a strong north-west wind and torrential rain. On the return trip head winds and a heavy sea were
encountered. Captain E. Boulton rejoined the vessel at Wellington, prior to her leaving. The vessel brought almost a full load of bananas, which were landed in excellent condition. The Maui Pomare brought the following passengers;—Mr and Mrs J. A. Mitchell, Mr and Mrs A. White and child, Miss K. Peebles, Mr A. D. Le May, Dr G. Dempster, and Master Godsmark. NIKAU NOW A MOTOR SHIP. STURDY COASTAL TRADER. [Pee United Press Association.? NELSON, May 15. It is several years now since the small steamer Nikau, with marked regularity considering that she spent six nights a week in Cook Strait, plied her passenger trade with the other Anchor Company vessels between Nelson, and Wellington. The vessel, which is of 230 tons, was laid up along with the Ngaio, the Regains, and other ships when the depression was at its height. After casting idle reflections in the still waters of the port for some time, the little vessel has again had attention directed to her," and work was recently commenced to fit her out anew. She was painted afresh, and with an altered structure and fittings, and with a completely new set of engines, the Nikau has been converted into a modern motor vessel for the carrying of cargo, and has been given a new lease of life.
