TRIAL MATCHES COMMENCE WIN FOR CANTERBURY [Pee United Peess Association. 1 1 ASHBURTON, May 15. In one of the first Rugby trials Canterbury defeated the AshburtonSouth Canterbury combined team by 16 points to 9. The match was held for the purpose of selecting a team for the first All Black trial giime at Dunedin. Play was interesting, Canterbury showing more science and combining well. The half-time score was 9 points to 8 in Canterbury’s 'favour. For Canterbury tries were scored by Hart and Oliver (two each), and Nolan and Olliver converted two. Gaffaney, Black, and Adkins scored _ for the combined team. There was little between the two sets of forwards, but the Canterbury backs were smarter.
