The Earl of Athlone, master of the Vintners’ Company, gave a dinner to the Prince of Wales, the Duke or J 01 *! the Duke of Gloucester, and the Duke of Kent in the histone Vintners Hall. Prince Arthur ,of • Connaught was absent owing to illness. Mr Picard, master of the company, said that since 1356 the company had feasted five Kings—Edward 111., David of Scotland, John of Fiance, Waldemar of Denmark, and Amadeus of Cyprus. Many ancient ceremonies _ then performed were re-enacted, including'a tableau in which the officers in Tudor costume escorted the cooks carrying roast sygnets, His Majesty being toasted as Soigmir of the Swans, which are still Royal birds. The toasts were honoured with the rarest vintages and nroposed in medieval phraseology.
