Under the windy conditions which prevailed Matheson put up a sterling performance, his 72 in the morning round representing excellent golf to be 4up on Wight. The afternoon round was closely contested, the winner holding his lead by steady play and giving his opponent few chances. Matheson reached the final a few years ago, but this is the, first occasion on which he has carried off the title. The Dewar Cup (intermediate) was also concluded, F. T). Stewart defeating W. D. M‘Carthy by 3 and 2 in the semi-final and then going on to win the final by defeating W. A. Mitson by 2 up and 1 to play. From her© on both players continued to win alternate holes, but Stewart kept his lead and secured his victory on the seventeenth green. Although the match was closely contested, the standard of play was not so good as that of some of the earlier games in the competition. P. W. Dixon, reached the final of the Junior Cup by defeating J. Manhire 2 up in the remaining semi-final match. The final over 18 holes has yet to be played off between F. W. Dixon and C. A. Deaker.
