CHORAL SOCIETY
1 The Spectre’s Bride,’ which will be presented in the Town Hall to-morrow evening by the Choral Society, is an effective composition of the modern school, and one that should prove popular with all concert-goers, Dvorak, the brilliant composer, not only invests the complete work with his individuality and distinctly unusual harmonic style, but he uses some of thg most beautiful melodies that have come from his pen. ‘ Songs My Mother Taught Me,’ and ‘ Humoresque ’ have been popular for years, but some of the lovely duets in \ The Spectre’s Bride ’ —notably ‘ Fair is the' Night,’ ‘ Ah, Dearest Child,’ and ‘ Fear Not, My Dear One -’—are sure to bo even more appreciated. These numbers will be sung to-morrow evening by Mrs Leonard Cronin and Mr L. E, Dailey. Mr Dailey is well known in Dunedin, and his work is always artistic. Mrs Cronin, of Auckland, a newcomer to local audiences, is said to be one of the finest sopranos heard here for some time. Her work should bo a feature of the concert. Mr Lungley has a most dramatic part to sing, and it promises to be one of the most successful roles he has ever undertaken. The chorus, at full strength, and a select string orchestra should balance an excellent presentation of the work.
