The Acting Prime Minister (Dr Earle Page) received a deputation, of potato growers from New South Wales, Vic(toria, and Tasmania which requested that the embargo on New Zealand potatoes should remain. Alternatively, the deputation desired an adequate duty on New Zealand potatoes rather than any system of quotas. The deputation also discussed generally the means whereby the organisation of the Australian potato growers could be brought about in order to ensure the orderly marketing ,of- their product. The , Tasmanian representatives submitted a comprehensive statement on the subject. Dr Page informed the deputation of the position of the negotiations with 'New Zealand and emphasised the difficulties so far encountered. He promised to submit the representations of the deputation to the Ministry for consideration in ’ connection with the further negotiations shortly to be resumed with the New Zealand Government. .
