The South Dunedin branch of the Women’s Christian Temperance Union met on Thursday afternoon in Wesley Hall, Cargill road, Mrs Donaldson presiding. i Mrs Felling conducted the devotional exercises. The president spoke briefly on the tax as it affected relief workers, showing , the hardship these already laboured under, and read a resolution thereon which had been approved by the National' Council of Women, It was resolved to send a letter, conveying the heartfelt sympathy of the branch to Mrs Williamson,, who had lost a sister, and a letter or congratulation to Mrs Hiett, who had shouldered tho heavy responsibilities of dominion president. Mrs Pirett, president of the Spreydon W.C.T.U., was welcomed, and later gave a brief and telling account of her work as dominion superintendent of Anti-Gamb-ling. Mrs Aburn, a valued member, was also welcomed after some months* absence, as also Mrs Gain, of the central branch, who spoke briefly on work amongst the young., The treasurer, Mrs Powell, then- read Her quarterly balance-sheet, which showed finances to be in a healthy state. The secretary read her report of the annual convention, lor tho first time in ten years held recently in Dunedin, dealing with the speeches, discussions, resolutions, etc., Mrs Polling following with an account the social and devotional side of the convention. Afternoon tea was served earlier. The attendance, and also the interest taken in reports, was encouraging, and *a really happy afternoon was brought to a close by Mrs. Felling*
