NEW ZEALANDERS IN AUSTRALIA
“ Every second person you meet in a broadcasting studio seems to hail from Maoriland—C. Honcyfield, Dorothea Vautier, Hilda Morse, and a score of others (remarks the ‘ Wireless Weekly ’), published in Australia, in commenting on the fact that Hilda Scurr, who takes the part of Sarah Purfoy in ‘ For the Term of His Natural Life ’ (adapted for radio by that clever writer, John Pickard, and broadcast by 2SM), is a New Zealander. Immediately she matriculated in Dunedin Hilda Scurr went to Sydney to join the Alan Wilkie Shakespearean Company, and toured with it for two years, taking character parts, although she was only seventeen. Since then she has had considerable broadcasting experience. Mr Will. Lawson, well known in New Zealand, is giving talks entitled “ Sea Cameos ’ from 2FC every Tuesday evening, and Mr Lloyd Ross, M.A., is still political commentator for 2GB, his talks being on Sundays.
