INCREASE IN BREAD PRICES

Press Association—By Telegraph—Copyright LONDON, April 11. (Received April 12, at 2 p.m.) The ‘Daily Herald’ says: “ Owing to the rise in . wheat the price of the quartern loaf is likely to be increased by Jd next week. The key to the situation is Canada, which holds two-thirds of the world’s supplies of wheat for bread making. Canada is licking on to' stocks as tightly as possible, waiting till prices rise to a level considerably above what the British millers wish to pay. Some of the British interests are keeping down Canadian purchases as much as possible by buying larger quantities from Australia and ( Argentina than they would normally for bread-making flour. Another factor in the situation is the Italian purchases in view of the possibility of war with Abyssinia.”
