CLAUDETTE COLBERT IN 1 CLEOPATRA ’ Although many fascinating figures of history have been brought to the screen, none is so glamorous and romantic as the Egyptian queen, Cleopatra, whose enthralling life story is told with vivid realism in the film of the same name which will have its initial screening at the Regent on Friday. The glittering pomp and pageantry of the period in which Rome and Egypt were engaged in a terrific struggle for world mastery offers unlimited scope for an outstanding picture. The producer, Cecil B. de Mdle, was undoubtedly the man to make the most of this rare opportunity for his spectacular “ Ben Hur ” and “ The Sign of the Cross,” were perhaps the most ambitious films ever made. With the modern flexible recording plants and the added advantage of perfected sound and advanced technique, it is said that de Mille excels himself in this lavish historical drama. Claudette Colbert gives a fine performance in the title role and acts with deep sympathy, enlivened with brilliant wit. v
