SQUALLY WITH RAIH / The following weather forecast wa« issued at noon by the Meteorological Office, Wellington, covering the south* ern district—Dunedin, Port Chalmers* Tapanui, Winton, Invercargill, River* ton, Orepuki, Bluff. Halfmoon Bay:-* An anti-cyclone of rather slight intensity covers the North Tasman Sea* but a fairly deep depression is crossing the South Island. Forecast: Strong west to south-west winds of gale force at places; weather unsettled ami squally with rain heavy in parts, becoming colder; seas rough to high. HEAVY RAIN FROM SOUTH. \ ■ Following the frost-like atmosphere of last night, the weather this morning was mild, a condition which was assisted by a north-west wind. Aboutf 11 o’clock, however, the wind hacf changed to south-west and colder temperatures were accompanied by heavy, rain showers. There was no rain: yesterday, and no recording had been made by noon to-day when the maximum temperature was 67deg. and the minimum reading was 53deg. Tester* day, the maximum temperature rccoraed was 65deg. and 46.6 deg. wa* the minimum. The barometer at noon read 29.5 in. and revealed a rising tendency.
