RESTORING THE CUT
NEW SOUTH WALES PUBLIC SERVICE Frees Association —By Telegraph—Copyright SYDNEY, April 1. The Premier (Mr B. S. Stevens) has announced that it has been decided to restore a further 20 per cent, of the amount by which public Service salaries were reduced. The restoration applies to all branches of the public service not covered by the recent decision to remove all cuts in respect to married men receiving under £3OO a year. Introducing a Bill giving effect to the salary increases, Mr Stevens said that the total remissions and concessions made by the Government to public servants represented about £1,250,000 annually. The Government intended to continue a policy of granting further remissions as the position of the finances permitted. Mr J. M. Baddeley, deputy-leader of the Labour Partly, said the Government had been forced into making remissions by protest meetings and the pleas of members that the Cabinet should do something to “ help them in the constituencies.” The Bill was read a first time.
