OUTBREAK OF LAWLESSNESS
GRIMES OF VIOLENCE IN MELBOURNE VICTIMS ROBBED AND ASSAULTED Press Association—By Telegraph—Copyright MELBOURNE, April 1. (Received April 1, at noon.) Seven violent crimes occurred during the week-end. In each case armed men held up and assaulted either shopowners or persons in the street. Two of the victims were battered into insensibility, and late on Sunday night were still unconscious. Three men at South Melbourne escaped from a cafe, where they punched a middle-aged woman and tore her clothes in an unsuccessful attempt to steal from the till. Another man was garrotted and robbed of £285 in notes.
