Golf abroad may .attract large “ gates,” if such a -word may be used in connection with the sport, but in Now Zealand, although its devotees are many thousands, there is no groat reaction toward visits by overseas stars. The recent tour by the English amateur team resulted in a loss of £290. and. while this was no doubt in some measure due to the exhibition tour made just prior to the visit of the Englishmen by Gene Sarazen, it is certain that a loss would have been the outcome under any circumstances. The New Zealand Council is rather fortunate that the expenses of. the visit were guaranteed by Mr A. Sims, of London, who, as has been decided, will be asked to bear only half t}ie loss.
