OTAGO CHAMPIONSHIPS CUP GOES TO SOUTHLAND A large number of spectators gathered at the lawns on Friday afternoon to witness the final of the championship singles, which resulted:— R. W. M'Creatli (Gore) heat J. Tannook (Opoho), 26-25, 26-21. In the first game there was little in the way of spectacular play. In the early stages Tannock played a steady game, with some fair breaks, and

M'CVeath was not playing up to his usual standard, his shots were going short, and he was not able to make any long breaks, although he had many good opportunities. At a critical stage in the game M'Crcath went to boundary and let Tannock in with a short ro-

quet, which took him to the rover hoop with his blue ball. In his next turn he made the rover hoop and placed his blue clip on the peg. M'Creath picked up a long roquet and took his ball to the peg and pegged his opponent’s ball out. This gave M'Creath a new interest, and he went to two back with his other ball and then commenced a wiring game, M'Creath going to four back and Tannock to the peg. Still wiring and making a hoop when he could get a perfect rush, M'Creath reached the peg and finally went out the winner by one point in a game in which his superior tactics carried on the honours. In the second, game Tannock played beautiful shots and picked up long roquets, but again he was no match, for M'Creath, whose superior tactics again took him to the peg with five points to spare.

Afc the conclusion of the matches the trophies were presented by the president of the association (Mrs A. S. Dalgleish), who congratulated the winners on their victories. Both cups have been taken from Otago—the “ A “ grade to Gore and the “ B ” grade to Timaru.
