This evening the No. 4 District’s dance will take place in the South Dunedin Town Hall. These functions, which are held twice weekly, enable a large number of patrons to attend both nights owing to the admission charge being limited to suit the times. On Thursday evening the hall was comfortably filled and all present enjoyed themselves to the full, the programme consisting of old and new dance numbers. The first heat of the Monte Carlo competition was staged and six couples were selected to take part in the finals, which will be held on March 14. The prize for this event is LI Is. The winners of the Monte Carlos were Miss Gavegan and Mr Brugh, also Miss Abbott and Miss Scoles. A special Monte Carlo took place during the evening, this event being controlled by the men of the H.M.S. Diomede, The prizes also were-donated by them. The winners were Mrs Bryant and Mr Brown, also Miss Kirby and Mr Kirby. Hie Triumph Band supplied the music. A bus will leave the hall this evening at 11.55 for town. On Thursday evening a most enjoyable entertainment was presented m the Coronation Hall, St. Kilda, by the St. Kilda Juvenile Entertainers to help the mayor’s relief fund. Although the proceeds were for such a good object, the attendance was not up to expectations. Every item was very well received, and consisted of numbers by the entire party—vocal solos, duets, trios, elocutionary items, physical drill, and instrumental numbers. His Worship the Mayor (Mr A. W. Edgar), who presided, congratulated the party on their excellent performance and thanked them for their kindly action m putting their talents to such, a good cause. The South Dunedin Town Hall was again crowded last Tuesday evening when the Ambassadors’ Dance Committee, which represents the South Dunedin Unemployed Association held its weekly dance. The winners of the various competitions were as follows First Monte Carlo, Mr and Mrs Garside: second Monte Carlo, Miss Aitken and Mr M'Dowell; Luck* Door. Mrs Forrester and unknown. Another dance will be held on Tuesday when there will be two Monte Carlos and double Lucky Door Numbers. Smith’s Jubilee Band will again supply the programme of new and modern time dance music and supper will be served free of charge.
