ELEVEN MONTHS'FIGURES NOTICEABLE INCREASE A comparison of the figures for the eleven months ended yesterday with tihose for the similar period of last year..shows that there has been a noticeable increase in the Customs revenue. For the eleven months ended February, 1934, the Customs revenue was £540,753, and for the eleven months ended vesterday it was £613,053, shillings and pence being omitted in the comparison. For the eleven months of the current financial year beer duty totalled £224,410, as against £212,391 for the corresponding period of the previous year; petrol tax totalled £157,304 as against £144,909 for the corresponding period of 1933-34; sales tax amounted to £224,821 as against £198,032; and tyre •tax to £7,591 as against £6,155. For the mortth ended yesterday, Customs duty totalled £54,893 as against £44,514 for the corresponding month of last year; beer duty totalled £20,533 aa against £17,730; petrol tax amounted to £15,193 compared with £12,878; sales tax to £18,132 as against £17,250; and tyre tax' to £827 as against £571. BIG RISE AT AUCKLAND Customs duties collected in Auckland for the eleven mouths of the financial yaar show an nicrease of £311,304 over those for the corresponding period last year. The total receipts for the period were £2,385,044, while the amount collected during February was £211,574, compared with £217,057 in the same month last year. The February total showed a decrease on the amount collected in the previous month, which was £223,687, but there was an increase in the combined receipts of petrol duty and tyre tax, both for the month just ended and for the eleven months of the financial year. Receipts for February were £48,942, against £41,933 for the corresponding month of last year, while the total for the eleven months was £516,282, compared. with £468,401. Excise duty on beer collected last month amounted to £10,831, which was £1 405 lower than that received during January, but slightly in excess of that for February of last year. Sales tax revenue last month yielded £44,976, a decrease of £16,238 on the total for January, although it was greater by £l7B than the receipts ior February last year. During the past eleven months the tax has Drought in £587,241, compared with £511,421 in the corresponding period of 1933-34.

INCREASE AT WELLINGTON

A steady increase in the growth of imports is shown in the Customs revenue collected at Wellington last month. Fot the eleven months of the current financial year the revenue has totalled £2*243,065, an increase of £428 444 compared, with the corresponding months of 1933-34. The net Customs revenue for February totalled £192,631, compared with £153,697 in February, 1934. Motor spirits duty totalled £57,348, compared with £53,340 in February, 1934, and the petrol figures for the eleven montns are £634,919 and £647,771. The tyre tax for February totalled £1,955, comwith £1,053. For the eleven

months the figures are £22,015, compared with £15.997. In February the sales tax totalled £55,537, compared with £46,097 for February, 1934. The total for eleven months was £694,087. Beer excise collections for February totalled £4,857, compared with £4,138 for February, 1934, and the period figures were £52,263 and £49,609 respectively. CHRISTCHURCH RETURNS The Customs returns for February in Christchurch, with last year’s figures in parentheses, were:—Net Customs,, ,£62435 (£56,308); beer duty, £5,950 (£5,338); tyre duty, £783 (£568); motor spirit tax, £18,308 (£13,097); sales tax, £21,169 (£19,824).
