FOUND DROWNED
MAN’S BODY IN HARBOUR Yesterday afternoon the body of David Findlay, a single man. aged 57, was found in the harbour near Hogg’s timber yard. The deceased, who was an unemployed timber measurer, resided with his brother at 45 Helena street, South Dunedin, and had been missing since February 20. The body was removed to the morgue, where an inquest was held this morning before Mr J. R. Bartholomew, S.M. Sergeant M'Entee represented the police. Evidence of identification was given by Charles Thomas Findlay, a brother of the deceased, who resided with him. Witness last saw deceased ou February 20, at 9.30 a.m., when he left the house, and reported him missing on February 23. Deceased bad never been under a doctor, though he was not physically strong. He went on relief in July last. Ho did not mention suicide, but be was very depressed. Deceased said to witness “ What have 3 got to look forward to,” and mentioned his work on relief. Deceased was in the habit of walking to the waterfront .to see if thorn was any work. Constable Crombic deposed as to (he finding of (ho-body, which he said appeared to have been in'(ho water for some time. A verdict was returned of “found drowned.”
