PLUNKET SHIELD
On Friday next the final Plunket Shield match of the season will commence .between Canterbury and Otago at Carisbrook. Canterbury _ has performed very successfully this season, and at present is in an impregnable position as far as the shield is concerned. Nevertheless, this match will be lacking nothing in interest on that account, as Otago and Canterbury are old rivals and are always out to gain the victory. The Otago selectors have made some alterations in the local team, the three newcomers being R. O. Talbot, F. Toomey, and F. Kerr. The former showed in the Southland match chat he had regained his lost form, his batting performance at Invercargill being one of the finest seen there for a considerable time. F. Toomey replaces Clark as wicketkeeper, and in addition to sound performances behind the sticks in recent games has proved he has ability with the bat. F. Kerr, a recent graduate from the Waitaki Boys’ High School, has already put uj) some sound performances in club cricket as an opening batsman, and in the recent match against Southland scored 63. The Canterbury team will arrive by the 8.54 p.m. train on Wednesday next, and will stay at the Carlton Hotel,
